James Brightwell, 93, of Birmingham, passed away on December 13, 2022.
He was born on January 27, 1929, to Rufus and Alberta Brightwell and grew up in West End. He was a Korean War veteran. James married the love of his life, Betty Rhea Gay, in 1954. James retired from South Central Bell after 40 years of service, where he served as a lineman and retired as an Architectural Engineer.
He is survived by his loving children, Mark Brightwell (Gwen), Wendy Mabry, Cindy Moor (Thomas), and Eric Brightwell; granddaughter Amanda Boyd (Adam) and great-grandchildren, Brooks Mabry and Lauren James Boyd and granddaughter Lisa Hendrix; and great-grandchildren, Carley Morgan (DJ) and Benjamin Hendrix. He also leaves behind a host of loved ones and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty Rhea Gay Brightwell; his parents; his sister, Eleanor Brightwell; a grandson, Greg Pennington; and son-in-law, Glenn Mabry.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16, at 12:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, with visitation held one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, at Forest Crest Cemetery.
