The Shades Valley Lady Mounties put the brakes on a two-game losing skid with a decisive 6?-win over Center Point Mondy night.
Angela Williams led all scorers with 27 points, including a strong nine for 12 from the free throw line as the Lady Mounties improved to 6-2 on the year.
The win comes on the heels of a tough loss to Pleasant Grove followed by a loss to Clay-Challkville, a game in which freshman point guard Lauren Nelson was lost for the season due to an ACL Injury.
Despite the lopsided score, the Lady Eagles and Lady Mounties played a physical brand of basketball that saw multiple players hitting the floor throughout the night, including a scary injury to Center Point guard Kiara Henshaw.
Midway through the second quarter, Henshaw hit the floor during an exchange with a Lady Mounty, landing on her back, and needing some assistance to walk to the bench. Henshaw returned in the second half, one of the few bright spots for the Lady Eagles who are winless thus far in 2022.
Shades Valley girls head coach Doug Ferguson said the Lady Mounties responded well in their first game since the injury to Nelson and used the matchup with Center Point as a learning experience as area play begins following the Christmas break.
“We like multiple defenses, so in a game like this you can learn a whole lot,” said Ferguson. “Are we rotating properly, are communicating on defense, are we boxing out, and are we in the right position? A game like this can help us improve as we go forward.”
