IRONDALE — Irondale Police Chief Jason Wiggins announced that the Irondale Police Criminal Investigations Unit has positively identified a violent suspect who allegedly committed an assault at the 1800 block of Crestwood Boulevard on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, the Irondale Police Criminal Investigations Division obtained two outstanding felony warrants for Navaeh-Ojore Timothy-Carl Payton, 21, through the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Officer, Birmingham Division. One warrant is a $1 million bond for Rape 1st Degree and the other is a $15,000 bond for Burglary 3rd Degree.
According to the IPD, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Crestwood Boulevard on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at approximately 11:30 a.m., to investigate a felony assault.
“The victim was still on the scene and was able to give a description of the suspect and what vehicle he was driving,” Lieutenant Mark Meadows stated. “She described the suspect as a black male, early 20s in age, 5 foot 10 inches tall, and 170 lbs.”
A short time later, at approximately 3 p.m., Irondale Police located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle on Grantsmill Road at the I-20 east entrance ramp. Payton, the sole occupant of the vehicle, fled on foot into a wooded area next to the interstate. Irondale Police, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, began an extensive search but were unable to locate Payton.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., on Oct. 26, Irondale Police dispatched officers to a burglary in progress at at convenient store in the 3300 block of Crestwood Boulevard. After accessing video surveillance, police determined that Payton was also the suspect in the burglary.
Payton is still at large and is considered to be potentially armed and dangerous. Anyone with information relating to this case or Payton’s whereabouts is asked to call the Irondale Police Department at 205-956-5990, or contact their local law enforcement agency.
