MONTGOMERY — Several area players and coaches have been selected to take part in the 36th Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Classic in December.

Among the players selected are Moody wide receiver and Arkansas commit Davion Dozier, the first Blue Devil since 1996 and only the second player in Moody history selected to the Alabama high school football all-star squad.
“Couldn’t be more proud of Davion and his hard work,” commented first-year Moody Head Coach Jake Ganus on Twitter.
Hewitt-Trussville and Pinson Valley each had two players named to the roster. Huskies Hunter Osborn, defensive lineman, and Ricky Gibson, defensive back and Tennessee commit will be joined by Indians Amare Thomas, wide receiver, and T.J. Metcalf, defensive back committed to play at Arkansas.
Clay-Chalkville Head Coach Drew Gilmer was selected as offensive coordinator by Keith Ethridge, Head Coach at Auburn High School and the skipper for the Alabama All-Star team.
The Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA) All-Star Selection Committee selected the players from nominations submitted by member school coaches at a meeting last week at the AHSAA Office.
“We would like to thank the selection committee for doing their due diligence in picking this year’s team,” said AHSADCA Director Brandon Dean. “Picking from such a deep talent pool was not an easy task.
“We believe this is an extraordinarily talented and high-character group of student-athletes who will be outstanding representatives of their schools and communities,” Dean added. “We look forward to competing against Mississippi in Mobile this December, on the campus of the University of South Alabama.”
Alabama shut out Mississippi, 20-0, last year in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The series started in 1988 with Alabama winning in three overtimes, 24-21. Alabama leads the series with a record of 24-1.
The 36th Annual Alabama-Mississippi Classic is scheduled for Saturday, December 10 at the University of South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.
