MOODY — Davion Dozier has had a whale of a season, and it’s only half over. The 6-4, 180-pound senior wide receiver from Moody High School has used his final high school season to show that he’s not just a deep threat, and instead can be dangerous from anywhere on the field.
Dozier hauled in only three catches against Lincoln, but they went for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He’s one of three players on the Blue Devils who were in contention for this week’s Player of the Week honor.
Explosive is the word for Dozier, who also plays basketball for the Blue Devils. He’s used to going up and getting the ball, and he’s been the go-to receiver at Moody for the past two seasons.
So far in 2022, Dozier has caught 21 balls for 618 yards, averaging 29.4 yards per catch. He’s averaging 123.6 yards per game receiving, and he’s caught nine touchdowns.
Dozier was considered a high three-star recruit before committing to Arkansas prior to the start of the season. He has gone on to show that he may have been underrated. His combination of breakaway speed, size and excellent hands has helped the Blue Devils to an undefeated record and a top five ranking in the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A football poll.
Also considered for player of the week: 1) Moody quarterback Cole McCarty, who went 12-for-16 passing for 329 yards and five touchdowns. McCarty has thrown for 1,426 yards through five games and 19 touchdowns and is averaging 285.2 yards per game through the air. 2) Moody wide receiver Kolby Seymour, who caught four passes for 104 yards and two TDs. The win against Lincoln was Seymour’s second 100-yard receiving game of the year. 3) Shades Valley’s Christian Thomas, who normally plays wide receiver, had 200+ yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground against Huffman. 4) Shades Valley’s Ethan Johnson, who had 17 tackles against the Vikings, and also got in on the rushing attack with 13 carries for 63 yards. 6) Pinson Valley’s T.J. Metcalf, who scored on a 55-yard TD reception against Oxford, and who has now gone two games in a row against 6A Region 6 competition without surrendering a catch in man coverage
