BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) has arrested a 21-year-old man involved in a shooting that injured a 4-year-old female on Wednesday, September 7, at approximately 8:30 p.m.
According to the BPD, Ronald Porter Jr., of Fultondale, was arrested for two counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging into an occupied vehicle.
Porter is in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, held on bonds totaling $1,000,000.
“South Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of Messer Airport Highway on a report of a juvenile shot,” Sergeant Monica Law stated. “Officers arrived on scene and spoke with an adult female who advised her 4-year-old relative had been shot.”
The adult and child had been driving in Tom Brown Village when they heard shots being fired and realized rounds had struck their vehicle.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the juvenile to Children’s Hospital, where she is still being treated for her injuries.
“Community members, detectives, and BPD’s Real Time Crime Center provided information for the Crime Reduction Team to locate the suspect near Beacon Parkway West,” Law stated.
