WETUMPKA — Back-to-back state champion Hewitt-Trussville softball picked up right where it left off last season, getting a win.
The Huskies rode strong pitching from Sarah Hindman, who threw for seven hits over six innings and allowed four runs (only two earned), to defeat Wetumpka in the season opener on February 17, 10-5.
Olivia Faggard bombed a homer and ended her day with 3 RBIs, while Hannah Dorsett went 3-for-5 from the plate and scored. Riley Tyree went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice, and Emily Onofry was 2-for-4 with three walks and 3 RBIs.
Hewitt-Trussville is competing this weekend at the Sidney Cooper Invitational in Columbus, Georgia. In the first game on Friday, February 18, the Huskies tied Spanish Fort 2-2 and then stomped Bob Jones in the second game, 9-1.
Hewitt will play three times on Saturday: At noon against Athens, and then they’ll turn around to play Tallassee at 2:15 p.m. The capper is a 4:30 p.m. game vs. Smiths Station.
The Huskies will play at Hoover on Tuesday, February 22, at 4 p.m., and then mark their home opener at Goldie Payne Field on Thursday, February 24, against Mortimer Jordan.
