IRONDALE — An unidentified woman was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on Sunday, January 2, at approximately 6:37 p.m.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the victim was a pedestrian walking in the travel lanes on Interstate 20 in the Irondale area. The incident occurred on Interstate 20 East between mile markers 134 and 135 in Irondale.
“The decedent was struck by a motor vehicle that did not stop and left the scene,” Deputy Coroner William Yates said.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said the victim was struck by a vehicle believed to be a 2009 – 2020 Dodge Journey.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
