BIRMINGHAM — Investigators from the Birmingham police department are looking into an apparent homicide after a 27-year-old man was found shot to death in a vehicle early Monday morning. The shooting occurred near a popular nightspot that police said was very active at the time of the incident.
The victim has been identified as Tyrese Jamal Vault, 27, or Birmingham. Vault was found non-responsive in a vehicle in the 2400 block of 4th Avenue South.
“At approximately 1:19 a.m., officers from the South Precinct responded to the scene on a call of a person shot,” Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said. “Officers arrived and discover Tyrese Vault in the passenger seat of a vehicle wounded by gunfire.”
The victim was pronounced deceased by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
According to Mauldin, an additional person showed up to a local area hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. It was determined the victim was shot at the same location.
“The preliminary investigation suggest the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of the parked vehicle when the suspect fired several shots fatally wounding the victim,” Mauldin said. “No arrest has been made in this homicide.Detectives have not established a clear motive in this investigation. The area was well populated with patrons at a night club nearby.”
