BESSEMER – A 19-year-old man has died following a shooting in Bessemer Wednesday night.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Mikel Ja’Darius Pickens, of Bessemer. Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates says the teen sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault at Urban Market Grocery Store in Bessemer. Authorities responded to the shooting at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday.
Pickens was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead Thursday morning. Bessemer police are investigating the case as a homicide. No arrests have been reported.
