WASHINGTON — President Donald J. Trump was found not guilty on both articles of impeachment on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020.
Alabama Senator Richard Shelby was one of 52 senators that voted not guilty for the charge of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Republican Mitt Romney voted outside of his party and voted guilty on the first article of impeachment, but voted not guilty on the second.
A two-thirds majority is required to impeach the president.
Senators have been debating the charges against Trump during a three-week trial. Trump was accused of using his office to pressure Ukraine into investigating those running against him.
