TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department released new photos of a car that was stolen from a local church.
A white 2015 Kia Optima with tag number ELE4AU was taken from the First Baptist Church parking lot on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020.
First Baptist Church has declined to comment on the incident.
The owner said she took her daughter to choir practice and parked the car around 5 p.m. She said she locked her car but left her purse inside the car. She said her purse was not visible from the outside of the vehicle. When she got back to her car around 6:15 p.m., her car was gone and a GPS tracker that was on her dash had been thrown onto the road.
The owner said she doesn’t understand how someone could steal a car from a church. She said she has never experienced anything like this and hopes to get back her belongings.
The tag on the car was a personalized Auburn University tag, however, according to new photos from police, the tag was removed.
Investigators are asking anyone living near Hewitt Street, Linden Street or Highland Avenue, to review home video footage. They have obtained surveillance video from the church that captured the theft and they released photos taken from the Flock system.
