BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a freeze watch for several counties in central Alabama. The watch will be in effect from Thursday night into Friday morning.
Counties issued a watch are Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Jefferson, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay and Randolph.
The NWS said sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 degrees are possible, in portions of central, east-central, northeast, northwest and west-central Alabama.
Frost and freeze conditions could damage unprotected outdoor plumbing and could kill sensitive vegetation. To prepare for freezing temperatures, take steps to protect outdoor water pipes by draining them and wrapping them, or by allowing them to drip slowly.
