MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A new internal poll from the Tommy Tuberville campaign shows the former Auburn football coach growing his lead in the U.S. Senate race.
A new survey from Erik Iverson’s Moore Information Group shows Tuberville capturing 33% of the vote among likely Republican voters. Congressman Bradley Byrne was next with 17%, former Chief Justice Roy Moore was at 15% and Secretary of State John Merrill registered 13% in the ballot test.
The survey was conducted August 11-13 among 400 likely Republican voters contacted via landlines and cell phones, according to Iverson. The margin of error is +/-5%.
A previous poll taken in June by the same group with the same methodology showed Tuberville winning 23%, indicating his lead has grown by 10 percentage points. Byrne’s share has grown by 1%, Merrill’s has grown by 6%, and Moore’s has fallen by 3%, according to the poll. State Rep. Arnold Mooney’s share of the vote fell from 2% to 1%.
A significant factor in Tuberville’s lead is his name recognition among voters. As much as 87% of the Republican electorate is aware of the former coach, while Byrne and Merrill are known by 56% and 54%, respectively.
