TRUSSVILLE — A fundraiser over the weekend raised nearly $3,000 for a little girl who will have a lifetime of health expenses.
Gracie Poole, 11, underwent a lung transplant on June 8, 2018. The transplant was a success but that doesn’t mean Gracie is out of the woods. She will have medical bills for the rest of her life. That’s why her loved ones are raising money for a special account dedicated to medical expenses for transplant patients.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is an organization that helps with fundraising efforts for children and young adults in need. Stacey Allen, a family friend, organized a car show and silent auction fundraiser for Gracie’s COTA account. The fundraiser was held on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019. Allen said 26 cars were registered, several items were donated for the auction and nearly $3,000 was raised. Almost half of that was given by Modern Woodmen Financial.

“What a blessing Modern Woodmen is for Gracie,” said Allen. “They made a very generous donation to Gracie’s COTA account! We are so appreciative and thankful for them!”
Modern Woodmen Financial is a fraternal financial organization. Financial Advisor Jordan Ray said the company focuses on giving back to the community with a not-for-profit business model. She said the company was happy to help little Gracie.
“Our members and agents identify needs within our communities and work to make a difference,” said Ray. “One of the ways is through matching funds raised by fundraisers for a great cause like this one. The larger the membership in any area, the more of an impact we get to make!”
Modern Woodmen Financial’s name was inspired by pioneer woodmen who cleared forests to build homes and communities. The company continues to work towards its goal to “clear away financial burdens for families,” according to its website.
