CLAY — The Fred’s store in Clay is closing its doors. The store placed signs saying, “STORE CLOSING” and “7 Days” in the window.
The owner of the store has not returned calls, but an employee said the last day of business will be Friday, June 28, 2019. Special discounts are being advertised.
City of Clay manager Ronnie Dixon said the city has not been notified of the impending closure. He said the owner of the building previously planned to sell the building. During talks about the sell, the owner told the city the store would remain a Fred’s but would be owned by someone else.
The building is still for sale.
