ANNISTON — A Springville firefighter that died on Monday, June 17, 2019, during training in east Alabama, has been identified.
Jared Echols was a firefighter and paramedic.
Matt Russell, the executive director of the Alabama Fire College, said Echols started experiencing difficulty during a part of training called evolution and exercise training. The group was at the Anniston Regional Training Center. Echols was taken to rehabilitation then transported to Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

His body has been taken to UAB Hospital for an autopsy and to determine the cause of death. Russell believes the death was medical-related.
The State Fire Marshall’s Office has taken over the investigation.
