MONTGOMERY — A proposal to increase Alabama’s gas tax gained some momentum when the League of Municipalities found common ground with the Counties Association and Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday.
The proposal would see the 12-cent increase divvied up three ways with eight cents for the state, three cents for the county and one cent for the municipalities, according to WVTM.
WVTM reported that the current tax of 18 cents per gallon was enacted in 1992 and that the bill to increase rates could come before the legislature in March.
