CLAY — The Clay-Chalkville boys’ basketball finished senior night on the losing side of the scoreboard as the Cougars fell short to Pinson Valley 74-56.
The first quarter was tight and the Indians took a 16-12 lead into the start of the second quarter. Pinson Valley was just getting warmed up.
The second quarter was all Indians as their full-court pressure intensified and steals were almost at will. The Indians were able to cause several turnovers that turned into quick and easy fast break points. During the run, Senior Geordan Pollard turned a turnover into a nice one-handed finish at the rim with a dunk and the rout ensued.
The Indians outscored the Cougars 27-11 in the second quarter and took a 43-23 to the half. The Cougars were able to have their highest point total in the third quarter by scoring 19 points, but were unable to stop the Indians from answering back as the Indian lead stood 61-41 at the end of the third.
The Cougars did outscore the Indians in the fourth quarter, but were only able to cut the final deficit to 18, making the score at the final buzzer 74-56.
Cougars’ Dayon Green led all scorers with 24 points. Pollard led the Indians in scoring with 16 points and also added eight rebounds. Junior guard Kam Woods also added 14 points and dished out eight assists for the night.
