From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Public Library’s teen department will sponsor an educational trip to Turkey Creek Nature Preserve for homeschooled students.
The Watershed Protection Program from the Jefferson County Department of Health is cooperating with Storm Water Management Authority, Inc. and the preserve for the trip, which is titled “What’s Bugging You”.
The purpose of the trip is to analyze the water quality and study some of the aquatic life in Turkey Creek.
“Students participating in the event will collect and identify different species of fish and macroinvertebrates and then assess the stream’s health based on the diversity and sensitivity of the aquatic wildlife,” said a statement by the library. “The aquatic wildlife collection and discussion will be led by Turkey Creek Nature Preserve Manager, Charles Yeager.”
The trip is slated for Sept. 19. Space is limited. Homeschooled students from ages 14 to 18 interested in participating are asked to contact Laura Edge from the library’s Teen Department at 205-655-2022.
