TRUSSVILLE – Members of the Josiah Brunson Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, were honored to present a Quilt of Valor to Korean War Veteran, Gordon Harvey, at First Baptist Church – Trussville, Alabama on Sunday, July 8, 2018. Mr. Harvey served in the United States Air Force during the conflict. His wife Georgia, and their family were in attendance, as well as several close friends.
Josiah Brunson Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored a Quilt of Valor to Korean War Veteran, Gordon Harvey, at First Baptist Church Trussville
After greeting the attendees and thanking Mr. Harvey for his service, Regent Linda Reid turned the presentation over to Vice Regent Chris Long. Mrs. Long welcomed everyone and introduced the chapter members present: Linda Reid, Mary Lewey, Julia Doty, Lynne Williams and herself, and gave a brief history of the mission of the DAR and the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

This quilt was made to Quilt of Valor Foundation specifications, by chapter members Mary Lewey, Chris Long, and Lynne Williams.
A specially-designed cloth label identifying this quilt as belonging to Sgt. Gordon L. Harvey, USA; Veteran, Korean War; presented by the Josiah Brunson Chapter NSDAR; 2018 is sewn onto the reverse side of the quilt.
In closing, as Mrs. Long thanked Mr. Harvey for his service, Mrs. Lewey and Ms. Williams draped the quilt around the honored veteran’s shoulders in a “hug from his country.”
Mr. Harvey was presented a Quilt of Valor Certificate, special pillowcase and box for the quilt, and he and his wife were given lapel pins of crossed Flag of the United States of America and the Christian Flag to help commemorate the occasion.
Founded in 1890, the Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage-based membership, service organization for women 18 years or older who are directly descended from a person involved in the United States’ efforts toward independence.
