ADGER — A woman from Adger was arrested and charged with DUI after accidentally hitting her boyfriend with her car, said the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Before 10:30 p.m. on Monday night deputies were called to the area of Johns Road and Valley Ford Road on a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies found a 35-year-old male who was suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Deputies learned on the scene that Rebecca Pennington, 33, and her boyfriend had been drinking earlier and got into an argument. Pennington’s boyfriend left their home on foot after the argument. Sometime later, Pennington went to search for him in her car, leading her to allegedly hitting him by accident.
“As she drove along Johns Road she found him walking in the roadway. She was unable to stop in time and struck the victim,” the Sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was called to investigate.
Pennington was arrested for DUI after she was found by deputies to be under the influence of alcohol. Additional charges of assault in the first degree are expected later today, the Sheriff’s Office said. She is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $21,000 bond.
