HONEY BROOK, Pa. — Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, emergency responders were called to the Honey Brook Township, Pennsylvania farm after a 3-year-old child fell into a manure pit.
According to WVTM13, Fire crews tried to get in for rescue efforts, but got stuck because of the thickness of the manure. The crew then pulled back out to focus on ventilation.
While fire responders worked to keep the boy calm, the crew developed a plan to remove him from the quicksand-like manure.
Two rescuers wearing rope harnesses made their way inside, built a plywood platform and moved through the pit to rescue to boy which sustained minor injuries.
Authorities said decontaminating rescue personnel and equipment took considerable amount of time.
