GULF SHORES – Hoover and Homewood swept the Class 7A and 6A boys’ and girls’ outdoor state track championships Saturday in the 94th AHSAA State Track and Field Championships concluded at Gulf Shores Sports Complex.
Other record setting performances came from Trussville.
Hewitt-Trussville’s Hope Igbinoghene set the 7A state record in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 11.73 seconds.
Igbinoghene’s gold medal in the 100-metter was just half of her medal story, as she also took the gold in the 200-meter event.
Lauryn Hall of Sparkman also broke the previous record (11.97) set by Hoover’s Caitlyn Little in 2015 with a second-place time of 11.88. the 7A state record in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 11.73 seconds.
Hewitt-Trussville’s Lea Townsend finished second to Hannah Daffin in the shot put with a 39-10.25 measure. Her throw also broke the previous mark.
The Huskies’ Tia Gardner won the bronze medal for discus.
Additionally, the following Hewitt-Trussville women turned in All-State perfomances.
4 X 100 Meter Relay Team: 5th place; Milan Brown (Jr), Skyler Nelson (Jr), Alli Carruth (Jr), Hope Igbinoghene (Jr)
4 x 800 Meter Relay Team: 6th place; Amelia Brady (Fr), Helena Steen (Sr), Maci Mills (8th), Sydney Hall (Jr)
300m Hurdles; Sydney White (Fr) – 7th place
