PINSON — Though the date of completion for the new Shoney’s location in Pinson is still tentative, Mayor Hoyt Sanders gave an update saying that a county judge approved an incentive package that the city submitted to begin the project.

The court approved the package at the end of March and the owner of Shoney’s has begun talks on plans for the design and construction of the building. Sanders said that even though the time of completion is not set in stone, everyone involved in the project hopes to have it finished in six months once the plans are finalized.
While construction hasn’t begun yet, Shoney’s will give Pinson a taste of its menu at City Fest on April 28.
“In preparation for the building, Shoney’s is bringing a food truck to City Fest,” Sanders said. “Naturally Shoney’s is committed and interested in Pinson and they’re looking to join us on Saturday.”
At the Feb. 1 Pinson City Council meeting, Sanders said that the Shoney’s location may bring in an estimated $80,000 to $100,000 in municipal sales tax. The project has an overall cost of around $1.6 million.
