CLAY – Former Clay-Chalkville basketball players Hasan Abdullah, Bria Bethea, Raven Omar, Alex Johnson and Kristian Hudson are making noise as they continue their careers at the Division I level of college basketball.
Abdullah, recently featured in a video produced by the Patriot League and Navy, just returned to action after sitting out two games with injuries to score nine points and add three assists as the Midshipmen’s starting point guard against Colgate. He is third on the team in scoring at 10.0 points per game, and leads Navy in 3.8 assists and 2.3 steals.
Abdullah tops the Patriot League and ranks 14th in the nation in steals per game and 18th in a total of 53. He currently sits 17th all-time at Navy with 114 steals.
Bethea, who plays at Murray State, continues to be a major weapon for the Lady Racers. Through 23 games, she is averaging 16.0 points per game, second on the team. She’s shooting 38 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the free-throw line, both figures leading all regular players. She grabs 6.0 rpg, second on the team.
Raven Omar, a freshman at Samford, has played on all 22 games as the backup point guard. She scored eight points and four assists in a key win over Wofford, then came back and scored nine points, making two-of-three 3-pointers to lead an overtime win over Furman.
Her former classmate at Clay, Alex Johnson, is scoring 4.0 ppg and grabbing 3.2 rebounds a game at Alabama A&M. She pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds in her last game against Mississippi Valley. Her season highs are 13 points and 13 rebounds against Alabama.
Florida International’s Hudson, who won Conference USA’s player of the week honors in December when she scored 27 points on back-to-back games, is averaging 13.3 points a game, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists a game. She recently scored 24 against Marshall. She is making a C-USA-best 84.7 percent of her free throws. The junior is just 52 points away from the 1,000-point mark for her illustrious career.
