BIRMINGHAM –Sherry Lewis, the president and chairwoman of the Birmingham Water Works Board has been arrested and charged with embezzlement, according to Jefferson County jail records.

Bond was set at $30,000.
The arrest is believed to be in connection to a grand jury investigation of the Birmingham Water works Board currently underway.
Joy Patterson of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office said the AG had not released a statement as of Wednesday afternoon.
Lewis’ attorney Brett Bloomston issued a statement saying Lewis is innocent of the charges returned against her.
