TRUSSVILLE –In light of the resignation of Trussville City Schools athletic director Karen Johns, board president Sid McNeal released a statement Saturday evening addressing Johns’ departure.
McNeal expressed gratitude for the job Johns had done and promising to recruit an athletic director to take the athletic program to new levels.
“Regretfully, our board has received the news of Coach John’s resignation,” McNeal said in the release. “Due to holiday travel plans already made, we will meet the week of Jan. 2 to formally act on it. At that time we’ll discuss the process we’ll use to identify and recruit a world class athletic director who can take our already outstanding athletic program to new levels.
“We thank Coach Johns for her time in TCS. She is an outstanding person and has led our athletic program forward in incredible ways. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
Johns submitted her resignation to superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill. The resignation becomes effective on Dec. 31.
“This was the most disappointing decision of my professional career,” Johns told The Tribune. “With that being said, it’s one I felt compelled to make.”
Johns was named to the post by former superintendent Suzanne Freeman in 2011 from a list of four finalist, including Bill Gray, Roger Shultz and Ron Selesky.

Very odd.

Yeah I agree. I think it’s time we make some changes in the BOE and executive staff. We seem to be having a problem retaining the best staff.
