JEFFERSON COUNTY – Just before 6 a.m. Saturday, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a pet grooming business in the 7600 block of Bankhead Highway to investigate a report of a fugitive spotted there.
It was reported that a man had outstanding warrants with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. The Walker County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the warrants, and asked that Jefferson County send deputies to detain him until they could arrive.
While deputies were en route, they received information that the wanted man had been shot.
Information gathered at the scene reflects that the wanted man was recognized by another man at the business, and that man drew a handgun and ordered the fugitive to get down on the ground to await the deputies’ arrival.
The fugitive instead charged at the man with the gun, and was shot in the arm and the leg. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
