TRUSSVILLE – Buddy Choat and Anthony Montalto will be campaigning for votes in the mayoral runoff election.
Montalto is currently serving as the president of the Trussville City Council. He is also employed by Jefferson County Schools, as Director of Student Services. Prior to this position, he served as principal and assistant principal for several schools, including Hewitt-Trussville Middle School and Hewitt-Trussville High School.
When asked about the campaign process, Montalto said he felt “excellent.”
“I’m just happy to have won every box,” Montalto said. “We got 40 percent of the vote, so that was a good goal with three candidates.”
Montalto has been a resident of Trussville for more than 28 years.
“I’m happy, but I’m certainly disappointed for the mayor,” Montalto said. “He’s been a great mayor, he’s been a good friend, and he’s served our city well for 20 years and I just appreciate all he’s done for our city.”
Montalto said that as the October runoff looms, he will work harder to reach more people.
“We still had some people not vote, and I hope to encourage them to get out and get my folks back out there and hopefully get some of Mayor Melton’s supporters to come back and vote for me,” Montalto said.
Choat has served on the Trussville City Council since 2008, and served as council president from 2013-14.
“I’m thrilled. I’m excited and I appreciate the people of Trussville, the citizens coming out and voting,” Choat said. “There’s a clear message with this runoff that there’s a lot of interest in seeing Trussville move forward.”
He currently serves as the council’s liaison to the Trussville Public Library and the Grow Trussville committee while also working on the Trussville Park and Recreation board and the Trussville Downtown Redevelopment Authority. Choat has called Trussville home for 23 years.
When asked about what he’ll do differently during his runoff campaign, Choat said it’s all about strategy.
“We’ll come up with ideas that we’ve not been able to discuss, but we’re going to be more specific this time out,” Choat said.
Runoff elections will be held October 4.

Now it’s time to stop Trussville first Baptist running Trussville. READ MY LIPS “‘NO NEW TAXES” cut your spending, finish what you started. Generate revenue from those unfinished projects. Then build more. Which, btw, the new shopping area on HWY 11 northbound side isn’t being built by Trussville… Only approved by Trussville shockingly. Now it’s time to stop making it hard to attain a liquor license and to ALLOW THE BREWERY TO COME TO TRUSSVILLE
