TRUSSVILLE – Jonathan Burns, who was previously charged with capital murder in the slaying of Kenneth Erwin Scott, has been indicted, according to al.com.
The 31-year-old appeared before a Jefferson County grand jury on Friday. He was accused of capital murder in 2015. The shooting occurred in the Tom Brown Village public housing community in north Avondale December 5, 2015, just before 9:30 a.m.
Scott had a gunshot wound to the stomach, and was transported to UAB Hospital, where he later died. Witnesses said Burns fled the scene
in a maroon Ford F150 pickup truck, but he later turned himself in to the authorities.
An indictment only contains charges. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
