FAYETTE COUNTY — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirms they are working an officer involved shooting in Fayette County.
The incident occurred at Highway 102 and County Road 53. Walker County Sheriff Jim Underwood said the Carbon Hill Police Department took a call about a possible drunk driver around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He said at some point his deputies started to chase the vehicle.
Underwood confirms the car was being driven by 17-year-old Cassidy Francis, and the passenger was 19-year-old Chase Alexander McKinney. Francis was a runaway, and both are from Youngstown, Ohio.
Deputies chased the vehicle into Marion County and portions of Fayette County. The suspect ran a road block that was set up by officers in attempt to stop them, and they continued into the city of Fayette. The suspect attempted to run over the officers when she ran into the road block, and officers fired shots at the suspects in self-defense.
McKinney was hit in the shoulder during the shooting, but his injury is non-life threatening. None of the officers involved were injured.
Both suspects have been charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and attempting to elude.
