CLAY — Clay-Chalkville (6-3) pulled away with a 26-point outburst in the second quarter and beat Pinson Valley easily, 64-21, on Tuesday night.
Jasmine Battle set a career high for the Cougars, scoring 22 points. Alex Johnson pitched in with another 19 points for the home team. Standout guard Raven Omar was held to just two points due to early foul trouble.
Pinson Valley trailed just 10-7 following the first quarter, thanks to five free throw makes from Aaliyah May and a basket from Laurel Uhomba. Kaitlyn Ambrose led the Indians with eight points.
The win lifts the Cougars to 2-0 in Class 6A Area 12 play. They defeated league foe Center Point in last week’s area opener.
