The Center Point Fire District and Trussville Fire Department are both conducting holiday drives to help needy families in the local areas. The annual Christmas for Kids drive held by the Trussville Fire Department has been ongoing for more than 35 years. The event began as a way to help needy families enjoy Christmas with their children, and has grown to exciting new heights through the years.
According to their webpage, Christmas for Kids has helped more than 150 families and provide for more than 300 children just last year. Local merchants and citizens give monetary and toy donations to the cause, allowing the organization to help those in need.
The Center Point Fire District is also collecting toys at each station and the administration office throughout their district, including the Clay and Pinson areas. Toys will be collected through Dec. 23, and the department works with local schools to distribute those toys to needy families.
The department is in need of toys for all age groups, and the toys should be new and unwrapped. A growing need for the drive is becoming toys for older children, such as middle school aged children. Because those items are more expensive, they tend to be donated less and less, and they are in high demand.
These drives are important to the communities, and both departments have seen very generous individuals and groups this holiday season, and hope to continue these missions for years to come.
