Trussville Tribune writers Erik Harris, Chris Yow and Kyle Parmley will be awarding Players of the Week in each high school football matchup of the 2015 season. Players or position groups will be awarded based on more than just statistics. The awarded player(s) will also be evaluated based on the timeliness of their performance. Tribune Players of the Week will be announced weekly on Tribune Sports Live.
Hewitt-Trussville 16, Montgomery Bell Academy (Tenn.) 21.
Hewitt-Trussville senior running back Jarrion Street has been named the Huskies first Player of the Week award winner. The Ole Miss verbal carried the ball 24 times for 143 yards and an early touchdown. Street powered his way into the end zone from two yards out for Hewitt-Trussville’s first points of the season. Street is awarded by Chris Yow.
Clay-Chalkville 38, Blackman (Tenn.) 7.
Another SEC-bound 2016 prospect has been crowned his team’s first Player of the Week award winner. All-state Clay-Chalkville receiver T.J. Simmons was one of many reasons for the Cougars’ dominant debut. He caught four passes that he turned into 151 yards and a pair of scores. When the Alabama commit wasn’t catching passes, he was paving the way for others as an overpowering blocker. Simmons is awarded by Erik Harris.
Pinson Valley 28, Hartselle 13.
Nick who? The first question Indians’ head coach Matt Glover got at the Jefferson-Shelby high school football media days was, “How’s life without Nick Gibson?” Junior Torrey Hendrix answered that question for his coach on Friday night, when he exploded on to the scene with 150 all-purpose yards. He would put the game out of reach with a catch-and-run that won’t soon be forgotten. Hendrix is awarded by Kyle Parmley.
