BIRMINGHAM – A Wednesday night shooting has left a 15-year-old boy dead on Pinson Valley Parkway.
East Precinct officers responded to the 3900 block of Pinson Valley Parkway around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival to the listed location, authorities found the boy suffering from gunshot wounds. According to the Birmingham Police Department, the unnamed victim was shot in the head and chest area.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity will be made public once his family has been notified.
Detectives have now launched a homicide investigation. According to the preliminary investigation, the shots were fired as a result of the boy and two of his friends attempting to carjack customers at a Jet Pep gas station.
The three allegedly walked up on a mint-colored SUV that was parked at the gas station. Quickly after the departed approached the vehicle, shots were fired from the SUV, striking him.
The mint-colored SUV, driven by a black male, fled the scene following the discharge. The boy immediately ran across the street to a Shell gas station where he collapsed.
UPDATE: “We need assistance locating the shooter,” said Birmingham Police Department Lieutenant Sean Edwards. “We believe there is another side to the story. So we need that person to come forward and tell their side of the story.”
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
