CLAY – A two-vehicle crash in Clay has sent four people to the hospital.
The accident, which happened on Monday morning, occurred at the intersection of Chalkville Mountain Road and Old Springville Road near Publix.
“We’ve had several accident right along there,” said Center Point Fire Department Training Battalion Chief Dusty Underwood. “It’s between the fire station when you come down the hill to Publix.
A red truck was left with damage to the driver’s side while a black SUV suffered “severe damage” to the front, according to Battalion Chief Brad Appleton.
According to Appleton, both drivers were trapped following the collision. The two drivers were later transported to UAB Hospital. Two pediatric patients were taken directly to Children’s Hospital.
Their status is currently unknown, but all four were considered stable as they left for the hospitals. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
The red truck held four passengers along with a driver. On the other end of the collision, the SUV was only occupied by a driver.
Two passengers in the red truck were left with minor injuries. Those two were not hospitalized.
“There were two other occupants of one of the vehicles that did not have to go to the ER,” said Appleton.
