The Rotary Foundation recently granted $75,308 in a matching grant to the Trussville Noon Rotary Club and Rotary District 6860 in partnership with the Rotary Club of Escandon Victoria, Tamaulipas, México, and District 4130. The grant supports the purchase of medical equipment for The Centro Oncologico de Tamaulipas (a cancer treatment hospital) located in Cd. Victoria. The Center serves the oncological needs of primarily the poorer residents of the State of Tamaulipas (pop. 3,500,000), and of the bordering states of Veracruz (pop. 7,990,000) and San Luis Potosi (pop. 2,700,000) located in the northeastern region of Mexico.
The purchase of durable medical equipment for a cancer treatment hospital in Mexico was recently made possible by a Rotary Foundation grant.

“The cancer center was recently expanded, but no provisions were made for additional durable medical equipment to support it,” said Emily Tish, president of the Trussville Noon Rotary. “The need was identified, and thanks to several medical mission trips to the area led by Trussville Rotarians Dr. Hugh Brindley and Jim Agnew, the partnership between the Rotary clubs grew.”
A delegation from the Mexican Rotary Club visited Trussville last year and toured the medical facilities at UAB and St. Vincent’s East Hospital. The grant was developed from the collaboration of the two clubs.
