“The man advised the trooper that his wife threatened to shoot him,” Jarrett’s statement said. “The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle in question and the driver refused to stop.”
Jarrett said several law enforcement agencies assisted as the driver, a white female, brandished a firearm during the pursuit. Spike strips were deployed and the vehicle stopped on I-65 southbound at the 212 exit ramp.
After a brief standoff with law enforcement officers from different agencies, the female fired on officers who returned fired. The driver was killed in the confrontation, according to the statement.
Exit 212 will be closed Thursday morning and motorists are urged to use exits 205 and 208 to reach Clanton.
The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) is investigating the officer-involved shooting and will report their findings to the District Attorney.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
