TRUSSVILLE – Thanks to a conversation between two men in 1989, the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club has recently celebrated its 25th birthday.
The club was born in 1990 after Owen Lawless approached Rotarian Martin Woosley about starting a Trussville club. Both men were joined by Gordon Flynn in forming a research committee that studied the matter for one year before officially launching the club.
After over two decades of operation, the club has grown to house nearly 40 members who meet for breakfast on Wednesday mornings at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Until last year, the club was know as the Trussville Rotary Club. “Daybreak” was recently added to the title.
Over the years the club has taken on many projects and served the community in many ways. Some of those projects include weekly reading with Paine Primary students, serving lunch to the families at Camp Smile-a-Mile, hanging yellow bows at City Hall for Veterans Day and partnering with the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce on an annual leadership conference.
Other projects include providing financial assistance to a mission team that provides water to Hondurans, recognizing a monthly student and teacher of the month, awarding scholarships to deserving students in the area, and much more.
