TRUSSVILLE – The victim of a fatal head-on collision on Roper Road in Trussville on Saturday has been identified as Filimon Alvarado Rivera, 37, of Katy, Texas.
According to the Jefferson County coroner’s office, Rivera, who was the uncle of his driver at the time of the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene on Sat., April 25 at 11:57 a.m. 20-year-old Daniel Dustin Corey Van Leuven of Georgia was the driver of the vehicle at fault.
Van Leuven was airlifted to UAB Hospital following the accident. He remains hospitalized, but his current condition is unknown at this time.
Gary Lloyd reported that the wreck took place in the 7400 block of Roper Road on Saturday afternoon near Trussville Country club between a Ford Expedition and an Alabama Power truck.
The driver of the Alabama Power truck has been identified as Brice Boatwright, who was reportedly unharmed in the collision.
According to authorities, Van Leuven drifted into oncoming traffic on the two-lane road, causing the accident.
