From staff reports
BIRMINGHAM — Three-and-a-half miles of Carson Road in Jefferson County were cleaned up Saturday, April 11.
Students and supporters from Fultondale High School and Center Point High School picked up roadside trash over a four-hour period.
Jefferson County Commissioner Joe Knight said the takeaway message for the students is to that drivers will no longer “pitch in the ditch.”
“These students worked very hard as they invested a little sweat equity into a roadway that will one day be managed by their generation,” Knight said.
Knight thanked the Jefferson County Department of Roads and Transportation for hauling away 12 tons of trash, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Fultondale Police Department, the Jefferson County Storm Water Department, ClasTran, Lowe’s of Fultondale, P&M Mechanical and his staff.
Knight also thanked citizens who were “patient in understanding the need to close this road” for 4.5 hours.
“Well done by all,” Knight said.
