PINSON — Many local high school soccer and softball teams were in action Thursday. Take a look at how each team performed.
SOFTBALL
Clay-Chalkville 16, Minor 3: The Lady Cougars notched their second blowout win of the week after knocking off Ramsay 15-0 on Tuesday. They improve their record to 11-13 overall and will participate in the third annual Pell City Invitational Softball Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Cougars will play Cleburne County and Homewood in pool play Friday before moving on to bracket play Saturday.
Pinson Valley 16, Shades Valley 1: The Lady Indians move to 4-0 in the area after their second defeat of the Lady Mounties this season. Now at 6-8 overall, they will play in the Sumiton Christian Tournament this weekend.
GIRLS SOCCER
Southside-Gadsden 7, Clay-Chalkville 1: A string of misfortune continues for the Lady Cougars as they drop their sixth straight contest after beginning the season 2-1. Their section includes Southside and Pinson Valley, so their second loss to Southside gives them an 0-3 section record. Clay-Chalkville will participate in the Pinson Invitational this weekend.
Pinson Valley 4, Mortimer Jordan 1: The Lady Indians notched their third straight victory to improve to 5-2 on the season. It’s the first goal they have allowed during the three-game run.
BOYS SOCCER
Southside-Gadsden 2, Clay-Chalkville 0: The Cougars have been involved in four consecutive shutouts, but were on the losing end of this one. They fall to 0-3 in section play. The Pinson Invitational will not count toward section play, but the Cougars and Indians will meet again April 17 in a section contest.
Pinson Valley 9, Mortimer Jordan 0: The Indians’ third straight win and shutout vaults their record back to the .500 mark at 5-5-2 overall and 1-1 in section play. They have outscored their last three opponents 19-0 and host the Pinson Invitational this weekend.
