BIRMINGHAM — The Eastern Women’ s Committee of Fifty sponsored its 25th High School Student Art Competition on March 23, held at Jefferson State Community College.
Students from Center Point, Clay-Chalkville, Hewitt-Trussville, Leeds and Pinson Valley high schools participated.
Bob Parker, a retired art teacher from Homewood High School, served as the show’s judge. There were 21 pieces submitted this year.
First place went to Jerika Bell of Clay-Chalkville High School. She won the $100 prize for her piece titled “Self Portrait.” Bell used acrylic paints.
The second place prize of $75 went to Leslie Cunningham from Pinson Valley High School. The ink and colored pencil work was called “Rising Stratosphere.”
Hugo Hernandez of Leeds High School was the third place winner. This prize was $50. His piece, “On My Mind,” was a rendering of a skull using charcoal as the medium.
