TRUSSVILLE – The Hewitt-Trussville boys’ lacrosse team outlasted Homewood in a three-overtime thriller Thursday night.
In the end, it was the Huskies that walked away with an 8-7 win in what coach Jamey Curlee said was “one of the best games I have ever seen.”
Regulation ended with a Carter McAlpin goal that evened the contest at 7. That Hewitt-Trussville goal came with less than two minutes to go and ended a big Patriots’ surge.
McAlpin and the offense struggled to find a game-winning goal through the first two overtime periods. High school lacrosse uses a sudden death overtime format.
“Goalie John Clayton, defensemen Ben Adams, Jordan Price, J.B. Curlee and Brandon Herchenhahn shut out the Patriots in the first two OTs,” Curlee said.
With the third overtime coming to a close, Trevor McBride came through with a walk-off score to improve the team’s record to 4-2.
