TRUSSVILLE – The local high school baseball teams put together a perfect 6-0 record in weekend action.
Class 7A top-ranked Hewitt-Trussville (14-1) increased its winning streak to 10 games with a sweep of visiting Briarwood Christian on Saturday.

bottom of the eighth inning to secure the 10-9 victory. Freshman pitcher Carson Skipper had a rough outing, giving up nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits in his 5 2/3 innings. He also walked two and struck out one. Davis Burgin came on in relief and pitched the remaining 2 1/3 innings.
Tyler Tolbert drove in two runs on a pair of hits. Jamison Stennis and Ed Johnson joined Tolbert with two hits apiece.
The latter game did not provide near as much drama, as Hewitt-Trussville secured an easy 5-0 win. Bradley Huffstutler pitched six innings to get the win, only allowing two hits.
Clay-Chalkville (6-10) picked up a couple of wins in Etowah, knocking off the host school and Cleburne County.
The Cougars defeated Etowah 2-1 in the first game of the day, with Dayne Edwards going the distance in a three-hit performance. He allowed Etowah’s lone run in the bottom of the first and held it off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest. Jeremy Rhodes and Wesley Meier each drove in single runs in the fourth inning, and Rhodes had two hits in the game.
The contest with Cleburne County provided a few more fireworks, as Clay-Chalkville took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth and took home a 7-4 victory. Christian Crawford came on in relief of starter Colton Friday and pitched four innings, only allowing an unearned run and earning the win.
Matthew Calvert led the offensive output for the Cougars, picking up three RBIs on a pair of hits. Tyler Duke and Michael Kilgore also picked up two hits each, with Duke driving in two runs and Kilgore a single run. Jordan Young also brought home a run.
Pinson Valley (11-10) also participated in a three-team rotation of games Saturday and won both its matchups with host Bob Jones and Cordova.
Shelton Clevenger hurled a complete game after coming out of his last start due to a minor injury. He gave up three hits, two runs and struck out eight in the Indians’ 8-2 win against Bob Jones. Baker Hodge drove in three runs, and Jody Graves continued his hot hitting by slugging a home run. Rudd Mauldin finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.
Graves took the mound in the second game for Pinson Valley to supplement his bat. He led his team to a 9-2 victory over Cordova with his five innings, allowing two runs. Blake Mayes did not surrender a hit in the final two frames of the game.
Hunter Davidson homered for the Indians, driving in two runs and scoring three in the contest. Gage Farley chipped in with an RBI double and Raul Tafoya knocked in a run as well.
