JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two students from area schools placed in the sixth annual Vic Fichtner Elementary Drama Festival on Feb. 21 at Minor Community School.
Chalkville Elementary School’s Kristian Smith placed first in the solo musical novice event. She sang “Candle on the Water” from “Pete’s Dragon.” She’s a member of the school’s drama club and choir.
In that same event, Clay Elementary School fifth-grader Bentlee Smith placed third. She sang “The Wells Fargo Wagon.”
Approximately 150 students from 12 of Jefferson County’s elementary schools showcased their talents in solo acting, duet acting, poetry alive and solo musical. Students participated in novice or varsity categories based on previous participation.
Secondary theatre directors/sponsors and music teachers served as adjudicators and provided positive feedback for students and teachers.
