BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a winter weather advisory just before noon Monday for Jefferson and St. Clair counties. The advisory will be in effect from 2 p.m. Monday until until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the NWS, an area of precipitation will move into central Alabama on Monday afternoon with cold air already in place. The current temperature is 33 degrees.
The system will enter the northwest corner of the state around 2 p.m., where there will be a chance of up to one-half inch of snow.
The system will then spread southeastward through the afternoon and evening. The freezing line is expected to be north of a line generally from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Anniston.
The greatest threat for our area is a wintry mix and freezing rain.
