JEFFERSON COUNTY — Road conditions are worsening across Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has reported ice-related traffic accidents at Highway 79 and Sunrise Drive, as well as at Old Springville Road and Roberts Drive.
The wreck on Highway 79 involved four cars. The two-car wreck on Old Springville Road is an accident with entrapment.
Ice has been reported at Highway 79 and Highway 151 in Pinson. There was also a single-car accident in the 3200 block of Sweeny Hollow Road. An SUV went into a ditch.
There has been one wreck in Trussville so far due to icy conditions. Trussville Police Department Capt. Jeff Bridges provided this statement to The Trussville Tribune: “We have had a one-vehicle accident due to ice on roadways. Most bridges are very slick at this time. We recommend people to remain at home if it is possible.”
UPDATE at 3:15 p.m.: Another wreck has been reported on Interstate 59 between mile markers 147 and 149.
UPDATE at 3:18 p.m.: Highway 79 at Sweeny Hollow Road in Pinson is closed because of ice.
UPDATE at 3:20 p.m.: The Trussville Civic Center will close at 3:30 p.m. today.
UPDATE at 3:20 p.m. Trussville City Schools buses can’t enter Carrington due to road conditions.
UPDATE at 3:26 p.m.: Old Springville Road between Chalkville and Springville is very icy and parts of the road have been shut down due to wrecks.
UPDATE at 3:34 p.m.: Alabama Department of Transportation crews are sanding along I-59 near Deerfoot Parkway.
UPDATE at 3:37 p.m.: Cars are being turned around on Old Springville Road in Clay at Somersby before Shadow Lake.
UPDATE at 3:52 p.m.: There are icy spots on Happy Hollow Road in Trussville.
UPDATE at 3:53 p.m.: There’s a wreck in front of Center Point Fire Station No. 5 on Chalkville Mountain Road. Consider an alternate route.
UPDATE at 3:56 p.m.: Highway 79 is closed in both directions near Sweeny Hollow Road.
UPDATE at 3:56 p.m.: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports a wreck involving a fire truck and a car at Highway 79-Highway 151 in Pinson.
UPDATE at 4:07 p.m.: There’s a wreck near Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson.
UPDATE at 4:20 p.m.: Per school administrators, all remaining Carrington bus riders have made parent contact and so Trussville City Schools will not run buses to Carrington.
