MOUNTAIN BROOK – Hewitt-Trussville saw its season come to an end at the hands of Mountain Brook, as the Huskies were unable to overcome a slow start and fell 74-41 on Thursday night at Spartan Arena in the opening round of the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament.
The Huskies (6-21) trailed 28-11 following the first quarter, but only scored five points in the second period. They rebounded to play a solid third quarter, as Matt Hicks hit three baskets to score six points.
Hewitt-Trussville was led overall by freshman Sean Elmore, who poured in 17 points and scored in all four quarters. Sophomore Harrison Stanley did the same, as he scored eight points.
Departing seniors Roosevelt Savage (three points) and Cole Mason played in their final games for the Huskies. Fellow senior Brian Duffett has been out with a foot injury since mid-January.
Mountain Brook (23-7) advances to the area championship game, where the Spartans will face Vestavia Hills on Saturday. The Spartans placed two scorers in double figures, with Terrell Guy scoring 11 points and Hunter Lucas adding 10. Jack Kline scored all seven of his points in the first quarter and also finished the game with six assists.
